ABOUT

I explore landscape.  I explore the landscape of the earth.  I explore the landscape of the human face and body. Shape and form, color and line combine to tell a story of place, of a moment, of an emotion. My name is Judith Harlin and I explore these landscapes through painting. My medium of choice is pastel.

Pastel is made of ground pigment combined with a tiny amount of binder. I love working with this pure color to capture a face, a gesture, the mood of a landscape.  I am inspired by the freshness of Mary Cassatt’s pastels of children and women, as well as the vastness and grandeur of Maynard Dixon’s western landscapes. My work captures fleeting moments with children.  My work captures personality through portraiture.  My work captures landscape and sky.  Pure color, pure pigment, pure pastel.
